Cold walk to the station where we studied the map to work out which part of the platform to wait on for our carriage. Again, no regrets re reserving seats: train packed!
As we buzz along, the day brightens into something quite nice: bits of blue sky, sunshine glistening above low sheets of fog over the fields. About an hour and a quarter to Frankfurt Airport.
More walking from station to terminal at Airport than I remember in the past?! You wouldn’t want to plan on quick transfers!
The security was unbelievable: the MOST I have been through anywhere! I mean ANYWHERE! But I guess this IS Germany.
We have one of our better coffees after passport control; mind you, perhaps we should have had a beer like do many others! They seem to drink beer here morning, noon and night!!
The plane is fully booked - somehow I have what seems to be the ONLY seat in economy with NO-ONE next to me - all the way to Singapore. Yay!
News catch-up: Montserrat Caballe, a great Spanish soprano opera star - and renown for her radical rock duet with Freddie Mercury in the early 1990s - has died, aged 85. And so has Charles Aznavour, aged 94!
And what’s this about the Sydney Opera House sails being used to advertise a horse race; and PM Morrison says he can’t understand people being ‘so precious’ - really?
Kavanaugh looks like his Supreme Court nomination is going to be confirmed in the US!
Brex-it continues to stagger on - and on ... the EU is clearly fearful of the fall-out.
And looks like a far-right candidate may have won the elections in Brazil.
And the Chinese head of Interpol (also vice-minister of public security - really?!) has gone missing in China, taken away by ‘discipline authorities’. As such, he can be held for up to 2 months by police with no access to family or lawyer; but the authority of the ‘discipline authorities’ supersedes these rules. Well, if HE can go missing, ANYONE can!! No?
Hmmm! Beware China Methinks ...
Spend most of the first flight reading the FT Weekend newspaper - excellent read! Every page worth reading. Kept me fully occupied. Lovely display at Changi Airport!
2nd flight from Singapore I read The New York Times - another good read. Plus a sleep - at last! (But at the wrong hours for trying to re-orient to Australian hours; very definitely still on Frankfurt time!). Also an excellent film: Notes on a Scandal - Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench - what powerhouses!
Arrive to 12 deg C (apparently it was 27 deg C yesterday!!!) and drizzle in Melbourne, half an hour late after a delay leaving Singapore. The bags took an eternity to arrive at the airport. Drive home swapping drivers frequently and arrive home 2:30 a.m. and put first load of washing on.
Our house-sitters have been wonderful and Mieka has been well cared for.
TOTAL CYCLING: 936 kms
TOTAL WALKING: 31 kms (the 3 official days of walks)

Welcome home :). Followed you every step of the way. Great blog - wonderful destinations, descriptions, narratives and superb photos. Sounds like a wonderful trip. And sleep on the plane home, yeeha! You just reminded me of that German beer breakfast phenomenon that somewhat astounded me on my travels there - astounding even for me - an Australian!
