Well, that's the plan!
It all started with the germ of an idea from Erika’s blogs in 2015 and 2016 when they spoke of riding in the old GDR on quiet bike paths there along the Elbe. This sent me looking on the Internet at the Elbe and what turned out to be a classic bike path starting in the Krkonoše Mountains in the Czech Republic and flowing through Czechia (as the Czech Republic is apparently also known as these days) and Germany, eventually emerging into the North Sea, 1094 kms in all.
And no, we do not plan to cycle the whole thing! - ‘we’ being myself and My Friend 1 and My Friend 2 - aka MF1 & MF2.
The idea is to get to the source and the mouth of the river and to enjoy some of the natural and historical features in between. There are biosphere sections such as dykes, alluvial flats and wetlands as you would expect from a river system as well as historic cities such as Dresden (bombed to smithereens by the Allies in WWII) and Wittenberg (made famous by Martin Luther and the Reformation).
